Muslim and Muslimah Puppets

Potentially I was supposed to put the material for this craft in the     Ramadan activity bag but I actually just made her do it first.

I drew outline shapes for a muslim boy and girl for her on a piece of paper and asked her to color them as she likes. Then we glued them onto a foam sheet, and cut them in shape. Next Lil Muallimah chose two colors of popsicle sticks and stuck them with tape.

Muslim and Muslimah Puppets. 

Lil Mualliamh fell in love with these. She immediately went off to play with them with her masjid posted about below.

She played with them for a long time making so many stories about Muslim and Muslimah with dialogues too Mashallah. It was quite funny and amusing for us.   

Now these can be put in the activity bag for her to take out and enjoy whenever she wants Inshallah.

Chalk Art Masjid

Lil Muallimah colored a mosque using chalk. This is a type of art work we have done previously but I never got a chance to post about it. None the less, you can pretty much gather how to dreate this kind of art. all you need is black or any colored paper, I used construction paper. Stick masking tape in any shape or design. 

Then let the child color in the remaining area. 

Next spray with hair spray as a fixative to bind the chalk residue onto the paper. 

When dry remove the masking tape. Result......

Mashallah doesn't Lil Muallimahs Mosque look nice ? This ones worth framing just like the other chalk art we have framed before.

Lil Muallim # 2's Activities


Imam

If Lil Muallimah made puppets Lil Maullim # 2 wanted a puppet too AND he wanted to sew his on the machine too.We didn't end up making the puppet exactly as he had in mind because we ran short of  enough felt. But, we did manage to join two pieces of felt and this one. Lil Muallim # 2 was quite amazed as to how the machine joined two pieces of felt together with a zig zag stitch :):):):):)

Next he stitched the front and back of the puppet together. His confidence in using and handling the machine is defiinitely improving with each sewing project Mashallah!

Next on his instructions I colored in the Imam with a permanent markers. I loved the fact he didn't want eyes but a sweet smile for the Imam, Mashallah! Also notice the zigzag stitch on the kufi highlighted by green.

Next the Imam puppet got hands. This part was not as Lil maullamh #2 had wanted it but we made do with what material we had. 

We loosely joined the arms with two brads so that Lil Muallim # 2 could change the Imams hand positions. See the Imam leading the prayer .... Allahu akbar....

Mashallah what do you think ? Lil Muaallim #2 would love to know.

Salah Centre

The following project will take more than a day to finish but we started out making it today. Inshallah when finished the Salah centre will be put up on the wall in the kids room where my Lil muallims can use is as a reminder of Salah timings, keep their after Salah dua and adhkar booklets and other cards related to Salah.

I took a bristol borad and folded in a 3 parts and cut off an extra strip from the bottom to use inside the salah centre.

Next Lil Muallim # 2 choose shiny craft paper I had lying around to make the cover of the Salah Centre. The cover is actually supposed to signify Bab us Salah the door of Jannah through which those established their prayers on time will enter.

Notice the key hole and the handle? That's for what we made next.......

We made a key with golden card stock and Lil muallim # 2 stuck praying persons coloring on it..... this was to depict the hadith As salatu miftahul Jannah .....Salah is the key to Paradise.

Inside Lil Muallim # 2 stuck the salah timings clock faces around the booklet on the hadith highlighting the importance of praying on time. Check it out.

DUA

O Allah  help us to perfect our  salah how our dear Prophet Sallalaho alaihi wasallam has taught us. Make us among those who are conscious of their salah, and establish it as it is required of us..... O Allah make us among those who are able to enter the Jannah through Bab us Salah ........... Ameen

We continued our review on steps of wudu and Lil Muallimah cut and stuck the pictures in the correct order with Ummis help. :)

We also discussed that kabah is in the city of Mecca and is our qiblah.

Steps of Salah

Again using the cards I showed her each  step of Salah and then we played the Imam Says game as posted in Ramadan Activities day # 8 using only 3 cards. Fir Lil Muallimah playing the game for the first time I showed her the card and said the name of the step out load so she could copy. 

Alhumdolillah she did enjoy playing the game. Especially when I repeated  the same step a few times before going to the next. :) Every time she was expecting that she would have to change her position but I showed the same card..... so she had these jerks ready to move but then with a squeal would stay in the same position. :).

Prayer Mat

Lil Muallimah made a little prayer mat by hand. I taught her the back stitch.  She did it in two steps and I sat with her all the way guiding her both the times.

In the end she was quite pleased with her accomplishment Alhumdolillah!

Kabah

I asked Lil Muallimah to lay out a prayer mat for me for Salah. As this is a daily routine for her Alhumdolillah she laid it out in the correct direction. Then I asked her, "Have you ever seen me pray in any other direction other than this ?" She said "No". Then I asked her, "Do you know why?" and she said "No". :):):) The cords of curiosity were now struck :):):) Then I took her to the window in the direction of the qiblah and showed her outside. I said, "You know how big Allah has made the earth we cant see everywhere from this window, right?" She nodded her head in yes. Then I said, "Can you see your cousins house from here ?" She said "No". So I said,  "In the same way far far away Kabah is straight ahead from here, we cant see it, but we know that it is there. So we pray in this direction because Kabah is our qiblah."

After this talk Lil Muallimah also made a model of  Kabah with me using foam sheets. The pictures are quite self explanatory.

Once the model Kabah was built I again repeated "When we pray salah we face the Kabah as it is our Qiblah." Then I asked her to lay down the lil prayer mats one her own facing the qibla.

We repeated the activity a few times and enjoyed it too.

Lil Muallim # 2's Activities

How to stand in Salah Congregation ( Jama'ah)

I wanted to discuss the adab of standing in saff for jama'ah, This is how we did it. Lil maullim # 2 also tried out his hand at embroidery today using back stitch. His project was a little bigger than Lil Muallimah's. He also did it in more than one sitting as it was quite demanding and time consuming for him. Plus hee gothis thread stuck some times and I had to undo some of teh stitchees to get it right again! Miskeen. A lesson in patience indeed :) But in the end he too was proud of his work Alhumdolillah

The discussion was, "How do we stand in Salah in the masjid? answer, "We all stand in a straight line", "And what is it called?" "It is called a Saf."

Next I made a surprise for him after all his hard work. 

I cut this paper chain of men in thobe and held them on his saff. When held loosely the line of salah prayers goes all crooked.

"Is that the way we should stand?" No "We should stand like Rasulallah Sallallaho alaihi wasallam told us. He told us to straighten our lines like an arrow and stand together closely, like this........"

Lil Mullim # 2 was quite impressed by it. Alhumdolillah and showed Lil maullim #1 and Abi too when he came back home from work.

Later I made two more saff for him besides his own. which we plan to use in another project soon Inshallah!

Lil Muallimah actually painted two of these sheets as she didn't like that one got a few drop of paint water unit! She even threw that one away before I could take it's picture. I had really liked color choices in that one.. :)

Steps of Wudu

I  practice wudu with Lil Mullimah every now and then and she sees us doing it too. For day 8 in relation to our yesterdays lesson of reading Quran and taharh and todays of Salah we discussed the importance of making wudu before these acts . It is a way of making ourselves clean  because At tahooro shatrul emaan. :)


Lil Muallimah lined up the steps of wudu cards from the Learning Roots product What's Next ? 

When I came back into the room I was delighted to find out that Lil Maullimah had placed them all in order herself with Lil maullim # 2 only asking her "Ok what do we do after this?" Alhumdolillah.

I really think it's important to let the older siblings take onto the teaching role from time to time. It not only helps us Homeschooling moms but more important;y it teaches them patience and experience the delight and awe the teacher feels when children do well.  Alhumdolillah !

Ramadan Calendar

Lil Muallimah has been breaking her Ramadan chain every day from our Ramadan Bulletin board wall. But I felt she was not completely comprehending the passing of days along with the new activity bags she got to pick everyday. So to give her a recognition and a step towards independence I made this small Ramadaan calendar for her. 

I made her color in the number for each activity bag she had already done. this way it was now easier for her to know which bag she would pick next while I say the number in arabic for her. Alhumdolillah. It's so fun to see how these lil ones enjoy a matching game of any sorts Mashallah!

Lil Muallim # 2's Activities

Salah

Mashallah Lil maullim # 2 prays salah everyday. Every now and then I ask him to recite the whole salah to me so I can check if anything  needs correction. So that's what we did with our salah lesson today. I am glad I did because I noticed he was mixing up his letters in 3 places. So we will continue the revision for a couple of more days Inshallah !

We discussed the timings of salah with respect to the position of the sun, with the  help of the What's Next cards.

He also looked up the salah timing from the Adhan software on our computer and marked the timings on the salah clock faces I got from TJ. You can find them here. I have lmainated these cards so he can update them everyday while practising time reading too...Alhumdolillah!

Asr time is missing because it got rubbed off .....(oops!)

  Lil maullim # 2 also laid down down the salah cards in steps and matched the related surah/dua/adhkar cards with them.

Imam says game

 This is an old game we play and my Lil Muallims love it. Especially because of the time they used to play it with  Lil Muallim # 2's friends at Islamic weekend school I taught. It's a twist on the the usual Simon says game. Just say:

 Imams says "rukoo" 

Imam says "taasleem"

and the child has to move from one position to the other. The catch is that if I just say the name of the position without saying Imam says, they cant change their position. Lil Muallim # 2 really enjoyed playing the game after a long time. Mashallah!

THE SURPRISE


LIL MUALLIMS TEACH UMMI

All praises are fro Allah who makes these wondrful parenting momets possible. Yet again I was humbled by my children. Once again they taught me that I have to trust them and let them explore and not fear they would hurt themselves just be there for support, guidance and attention. If you are wondering what I am talking about .... just scroll down to see what my Lil Muallims made using a sewing machine for the first time in their lives.

Lil Muallim # 2's Prayer Mat

Mashallah aren't these adorable? They are made out of felt. and yes they did make them themselves with me right with them. But honestly speaking they surprised me with their handling of the sewing machine. I, honestly had a much simpler project in mind with sewing by hand with a needle and thread. But Lil muallim requested if they could use my sewing machine. They have seen me and my mother using the sewing machine many times and they would always look intently. But I never realized how closely they had been watching Subhanallah. It was a revelation to me. They controlled the machine entirely by themselves following the lines I had drawn for them to follow easily and guiding their hands with mine. 

In the beginning they asked me when to stop but soon they started doing it quite accurately. Lil Muallimah surprised me the most Subhanallah! She  not only started controlling the cloth very well after a few lines but also moved her hands back into position as the cloth moved forward with the machine. Subhanallah!


The trimmings on the edges were made in the end. I did all the cutting for the trims for Lil Muallimah. but Lil Muallim # 2 did his by himself after I showed him how Mashallah!

Lil Muallim # 2 asked me for a person to pray the salah so I made my own lil craft too

   

MY CRAFT

The pipe cleaner doll can be used with hijab or without, and as its made with pipe cleaners they can change their body hand positions as they want.....

Later on a friends suggestion I tried the kufi from the Ramadan Sensory tub on it and it fitted it very well :):):) So I guess I will be making another pipe cleaner doll with matching clothes to go with the kufi Inshallah!
